After college, Bill and Mary were married Aug. That jellybean and their mutual love for dancing were what brought them together – thereafter they would go to 3 or 4 dances every week - and they often showed off their surprizing dancing talents during family celebrations and weddings. Mary got his attention by throwing a jellybean at him. In his late teens he struck gold when he met the lady who’d become the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Keys, at a local dance.

His father later opened one of Canada’s first retail stores specializing in household lighting and early appliances. As a youngster he worked for his father, Ignatius Burke, who owned Burke Electric, an electrical contracting business opened just after the First World War and the subsequent pandemic in 1920.

His golf and curling trophies and prizes were numerous and were accrued even into his senior years. Later, Bill also curled, often organizing tournaments, he bowled, played broomball, and baseball too. Later in his young adult years, while attending Regiopolis Notre Dame College, though lean in stature, he was highly adept at playing basketball, hockey, and football. He often recalled the day the war ended and how unforgettably jubilant the scene was on the streets of Kingston that day. Members of his family, uncles, cousins, and an aunt left to join the war effort overseas, some of whom never returned including his Uncle Charles who was killed by a German mortar attack close to the end of the war. As a young 10-year-old, the world was plunged into the Second World War and a lot of young men went off to fight. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years Mary daughter Julie (Byron) and his sons Dan (Jinky), Mark (Kathleen), and Mark’s former wife Natalie Granddaughters Rachel (Greg), Jenn (Blake), Nicole, Katie (Derek), Amanda, and Kayleigh great grandson Declan Nieces Margie, Kate (John), Jackie, Pat, Mike, Margaret, Suzette, Kim (Mark), nephews Hugh, Steve (Dawn), Chris (Shelley), Jeff (Melanie), Jamie (Vicky), Jason (Dawn), Steve (Tina) dear friends Phil Bazant, Dale Holmes and many others. He was predeceased by his parents, Ignatius and Margaret his brother Power his sisters, Peggy Schuett (George), Rita Plunkett (Ben), and Evelyn McLennan (Jack) nephew Bob Schuett. Peacefully on June 20, 2023, at 2:48 am, Bill passed away surrounded by family members at Bethany College-Side in Red Deer, Alberta.
